Sample templates for safety data sheets

This page offers safety data sheet templates in English language, created with EuPhraC standard phrases, which comply with legal requirements.

The suggested structure within each safety data sheet section or subsection is an example which you can of course modify. It is meant to present an idea how a compliant SDS can look like. These structures were developed by experts under consideration of e.g. latest developments on UN level. They have also been checked against REACH-IT's structure in IUCLID 5 for a maximum of similarity, but with deviations, the legal text took precedence –this was the case specifically in sections 11 and 12.

The templates also contain supportive comments and examples.

The following colors were used in the templates:

  • Yellow text marks special requirements for extended safety data sheets
  • Text in violet marks changes which were introduced with the adaptation of UN-GHS safety data sheets into European law (Regulation (EC) No. 453/2010)
  • Blue text refers to data for mixtures which is derived from their components
  • Text in red italics is an example content made of existing standard phrases
